15 September 2023
Session 6 ‣  Panel session

11:45 – 13:15

Recent climate, geopolitical and economic changes have underlined the importance of sustainability and environmental protection. Publishing industry has recognized these changes and the need to reach Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. One of the major initiatives in the field of scholarly publishing is United Nations SDG Publishers Compact. When signing it, each publisher/journal pledges to take action on at least one SDG goal, raise the awareness and promote SDGs among its staff, suppliers, customers and stakeholders, among others. In this session, we will present the initiatives and tools that are available to adopt sustainability actions at individual as well as organizational levels, and discuss how journals and publishers, but also researchers and reviewers, can contribute to SDGs. By adopting simple yet effective procedures and policies, the publishing industry can lead in the process of reaching sustainable and environmentally friendly ecosystem.
